Sunshine for the Soul: A Message from Doris Muna on the Healing Benefits of Sunlight

Hello, Dear Friends,

As we welcome the vibrant days of summer, I want to share with you the remarkable healing powers of one of nature’s most generous gifts: the sun. With the warmer days upon us, it’s the perfect time to talk about how sunlight not only uplifts our spirits but also supports our physical health in profound ways.

As for the mythical and spiritual aspect of our lives , the sun played an important part. All the ancient civilizations believed in the magical powers of the Sun.  They even worshiped it in civilization of ancient Egypt ( Ra), Greece (Helios), in Nordic (Sol),  Inca religion (Inti).

For those who take yoga, the sun salutation anchors this practice within you as you reverence the sun and get your body to wake up and be grounded.

 Why Sunlight Matters

Sunlight is a vital component of a healthy lifestyle. Research is showing more and more the importance of Vitamin D in keeping us healthy. Here’s why it’s so beneficial:

Vitamin D Production: Our bodies synthesize Vitamin D when exposed to the sun. This essential nutrient plays a crucial role in bone health, immune function, and more.

Mood Enhancement: There’s a reason sunshine makes us feel happier. Sunlight triggers the release of serotonin, a hormone that can help to boost your mood and keep you calm.

Regulated Sleep Cycles: Natural sunlight helps regulate our body’s circadian rhythms, which in turn improves the quality of our sleep, making us feel more refreshed each morning. Those who travel across time zones, attest to the importance of sun in getting over their jet lag faster.

Embracing the Sun Safely

I encourage each of you to enjoy the beautiful sunny days, but it’s crucial to do so responsibly to protect your skin and health. Here are my personal tips for safe sun exposure:

Protection is Key: Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30. Don’t forget to reapply every two hours, especially if you’re swimming or sweating. Use a sunscreen for the face that is specifically created for facial protection.

Smart Timing: Try to avoid the sun when it’s strongest, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. If you do go out during these hours, seek shade under a tree, an umbrella, or wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.

Stay Hydrated: With warmer weather, staying hydrated is more important than ever. Drink plenty of water to keep your body cool and hydrated.

Final Thoughts from My Heart

I deeply believe in the healing power of nature, and the sun is one of our greatest natural healers.

Take advantage of summer to reconnect with the outdoors and allow ourselves to absorb the numerous health benefits that sunlight offers—safely and joyfully.

Thank you for taking the time to embrace health and wellness with me. May your days be filled with warmth, light, and vibrant health!

Warmest regards,

Doris Muna
