"Meteora" means hovering in the air, and that's exactly what this ancient monastery, the Meteora, is doing. It's one of the largest and most important complexes of Greek Orthodox monasteries in Greece. During the 11th Century, monks settled in this heavenly home. It's said that monasteries such as this were built on top of such rocks using ropes that lifted building materials and provisions to the top. Later, stairs were constructed to reach this spiritual worship place. Its no wonder that this mystical monastery, suspended in the air, attracts the deeply religious as well as philosophers, poets, and painters!
