Winds of Change
It begins as a feeling.
A subtle breeze brushing your skin. Dry leaves swirling across the ground. A scrap of paper lifting into the air. Birds shifting direction mid-flight as if responding to an invisible cue.
Pause.
What were you thinking about in that exact moment?
I began noticing this pattern whenever my inner world shifted. Whenever something subtle changed in my awareness, nature seemed to mirror it. I’ve come to believe these moments are not random. They are guidance. Messages from our higher soul gently asking us to pay attention.
This became crystal clear to me while walking along the beach in Puerto Rico.
That morning the sky was thick with dark, heavy clouds. It looked like a storm would break at any second. I had a leadership conference starting soon and rushed to the shore to get in my morning walk before the day began. I kept glancing up, expecting the downpour.
Then suddenly — the wind intensified.
It tugged at my clothes. My hat nearly flew off. The ocean shifted. And right before my eyes, the dark clouds began to scatter.
Within minutes, the sky opened. The sun broke through.
And in that exact moment, something inside me cleared too.
I was attending a NAWBO leadership program, hoping for clarity about the next direction in my work. I had been asking for insight, for guidance, for confirmation. Surrounded by brilliant women entrepreneurs, listening to powerful speakers, I felt inspired — but still uncertain.
Until the wind came.
As the clouds dissolved, it felt as though a veil lifted from my own thoughts. The direction I had been seeking became obvious. Simple. Clear. The internal fog was gone.
Sometimes it is difficult to self-analyze. We overthink. We circle the same ideas. But when we place ourselves in the right environments, connect with aligned energy, and remain open, life intervenes.
The wind disrupts.
And disruption is not always destruction. Often, it is liberation.
Trees need the wind to release dry leaves. Flowers rely on wind to carry pollen farther than they ever could alone. A sailboat depends entirely on the wind to move forward — sometimes in directions never originally planned.
Without wind, there is stagnation.
Without movement, we remain in comfort zones that quietly drain us.
Wind is an energetic decluttering. It sweeps through, removing what no longer serves. It reminds us to examine where we are stuck. It asks us to open our sails.
As Rumi beautifully said:
“On a day when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open, and the world is full of beauty.”
When the wind picks up in your life — whether through change, challenge, or unexpected opportunity — consider that it may be clearing your sky.
Try This Simple but Powerful Practice
The next time you are at the beach or standing in an open space in nature:
Stand still.
Arms relaxed at your sides.
Take three deep, cleansing breaths.
Feel your feet grounded into the earth.
Close your eyes if that helps you focus.
Notice the wind.
Is it strong? Gentle? Almost imperceptible?
Now check in with your thoughts.
What is moving through your mind?
What feels heavy?
What feels ready to release?
Allow the wind to symbolically carry away confusion. Imagine it clearing mental clutter. Stay present. Listen inwardly.
With practice, you will begin to sense guidance more clearly. You will recognize when your inner sky is shifting. You will become more attuned to your own wisdom.
It is in these subtle moments that transformation begins.
Be open to the wind.
It may be carrying exactly the clarity you’ve been asking for.
With love and light.
